Rubinstein (Rubinshtein) was opened under the Conservatory in 1912 and during the subsequent half century gathered a remarkable collection of manuscript music scores, archives, musical instruments, and other materials. During World War II the museum served as the basis for the newly organized Central Museum of Musical Culture, founded in 1943, and which in 1954 was renamed in honor of M.I. Glinka. The museum remained in the Conservatory complex until 1964, when its move to a new location left the Conservatory without its own museum. A new N.G. Rubinstein Museum was opened in the Conservatory in 1995. |
