The late eighteenth-century architectural ensemble, which was part of the former suburban Moscow estate of the Counts Sheremetev, was established as a museum in 1918. The Fond of Written Sources was given independent status in 1978. Until 1990 the museum had an affiliated branch—the V.A. Tropinin Museum, but that is now under separate administration. |
