Library facilities As explained above, most of the library holdings before 1938 were transformed into the State Public Historical Library of the RSFSR (GPIB), which was established as a separate library that year (see G–3). In 1940 the museum library begun to complete again and was reopen. There are now over 200,000 books (volumes) of archeology, Russian and foreign history, religion, philosophy, ethnography, Russian and foreign art, among others. The most valuable publications are incunabula, West European books of the 15th–19th cc., Russian books of the 18th c. The library (Otdel knizhnogo fonda) also has free access to all electronic resources of RNB in St. Petersburg (G–15).
