Gives a bibliographic survey of reference and other literature on the Manuscript Division. Includes analysis of Zapiski OR from 1938 to 1961. Unfortunately this survey has not been superseded, although the information provided is obviously outdated.

The first part of volume 1 contains brief information on the collections of early Slavonic and Rus' manuscripts acquired by the Rumiantsev Public Museum and subsequently the Manuscript Division between 1862 and 1979. The second part of volume 1 contains historical information on the collections of manuscript books accessioned between 1917 and 1947, while the third part covers collections accessioned from 1948 through 1979. In all cases, data are provided on the history of the collections, their creating agencies, and the general content and present arrangement of the collections themselves. Provides full bibliography of surveys, earlier catalogues, and manuscript descriptions and related reference or scholarly literature. Three further volumes of the directory are planned for publication together with auxiliary reference apparatus to volume 1.

Before publication of the series Zapiski Otdela rukopisei (from 1939—see g–10), this series contained some descriptions of the manuscripts and information on the publications of the Manuscript Division. The postwar continuation of the series predominantly covers other divisions of the library.

This series predominantly consists of publications of literary manuscripts and correspondence then held by the Rumiantsev Museum, including Pushkin's diary and the correspondence of K.P. Pobedonostsev and V.O. Kliuchevskii.

The first two issues (through 1865) were published in St. Petersburg. From 1870 to 1894 volumes came out three times a year; from 1895 to 1915 it was published annually. The volumes contain lengthy descriptions of the manuscript holdings, and in some cases catalogues and published texts. The last issue, covering the years 1916–1922, preserved only in typescript form, lists manuscript receipts for those years.

The first two published volumes provide scholarly descriptions of Slavonic-Rus' manuscripts received by the Rumiantsev Museum and Library through 1922, arranged and numbered by year of acccession. The manuscripts described are all catalogued as part of the Museum Collection (fond 178). Note the additional volumes 3–7 that are available in typescript form in the division.

A scholarly catalogue describing apocryphal manuscripts and early printed books in a special exhibition, centering around the Biblical Book of Revelations of St. John the Apostle, sponsored by the Greek Embassy in Moscow. The elaborately printed catalogue gives scholarly descriptions of 13 Greek and Latin manuscripts, 63 manuscripts in the Slavonic-Rus' and Old Believer traditions, 25 incunabula and early printed books, and 12 later manuscript commentaries (18th–19th cc.). Of special interest, several especially notable German “trophy” manuscripts and early books were exhibited and described for the first time, including the 1454/1455 Gutenberg Bible acquired in 1945 from the Leipzig Museum of the Book and Printing.

Numbers given are Stroev's own and bear no relationship to old or new numbers of the manuscripts. Of the manuscripts covered in this volume, 237—the most valuable third of those from the Volokolamsk monastery—are now in RGB (fond 113). Most of the rest of the Volokolamsk collection and some of the manuscripts described by Stroev from other institutions are now in GIM, but others are dispersed.

Catalog of some 400 16th–19th cc. German books from the collection of Carl David Becher. The collection, long displayed in the German Book Museum in Leipzig, was taken to the Soviet Union in 1945, and is now held by the Russian State Library. Photos include 80 color plates of works with decorative bindings, a focal point of the Becher collection.

The first published account of the collection of approximately 600 units of manuscripts, incunabula, and early imprints from the Leipzig Museum of the Book and Printing that was brought to Moscow from Germany in 1945–1947. Kept in secret for almost half a century, of special interest among one of the most important German “trophy” library collections now in Moscow is the illuminated 1452–1456 Gutenberg Bible on parchment. RGB is now preparing a full catalogue of the Leipzig collection and other trophy materials from Germany.
