Work with documents in the museum requires the agreement of the head of the RGO archive as well as permission of the Scientific Secretary. NB. St. Petersburg historical building of RGO was opened after renovation in autumn 2010. RGO scientific archive will open in 2013. For access to some open archival documents researchers should write to RGO archive: [email protected]. Library facilities The RGO Scientific Library, founded in 1845, is one of the world's richest geographic libraries (ca. 460,000 volumes). Since 1965, the library has been officially a branch of BAN. It includes the personal libraries of a number of important scholars, including V.I. Lamanskii, A.I. Voeikov, A.A. Tillo, and Iu.M. Shokal'skii, among others.
