History
The first separate Leningrad Oblast Photograph Archive was established in 1936, but in 1941 it became the Photograph Division of the Leningrad Archive of October Revolution and Socialist Construction (GAORSSLO). In 1966, on the basis of that Division, the Leningrad State Archive of Documentary Films, Photographs, and Sound Recordings (LGAKFFD) was organized. In 1987 the archive was raised to the status of a “central state archive” and was renamed the Central State Archive of Documentary Films, Photographs, and Sound Recordings of Leningrad (St. Petersburg, from 1991).
