The first volume contains information on fonds of organs of high, central and local military administration, administration of the army, corps and other formations from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century, as well as collections formed principally of documents of these fond creators.
        The second volume contains information of the field administration of the supreme commander, the commander-in-chief of the army, commander of the army and fonds of the corps in the period of World War I. Also includes fonds of divisions, military formations and parts of different branches of the Russian army operating during the entire existence of the Russian army.
        The third volume contains information on the fonds of the military medical institutions, state and social organizations of sanitary and logistical support of the army, military educational institutions, as well as personal fonds and fonds on the history and activity of the archive from the 18th to the 20th century.
        The fourth volume contains a reference guide to the first three volumes (subject, name and geographic indexes and an index of the distribution of finding aids by volume), as well as information on changes in the composition of the fonds of RGVIA for 2001–2008, a bibliographic list of work prepared using documents of the archive, and a list of fonds not included in volumes 1–3.

Provides much more thorough description of holdings than the earlier 1941 guide or the new 2001 one. Long classified “secret,” few copies were distributed to libraries outside the archive.

The first and only Soviet published guide to the archive that was openly available to researchers, but much less complete than subsequent initially classified ones (see above).

The guide—initially classified “top secret”—briefly describes fonds then held in the Leningrad branch of TsGVIA, subsequently transferred to Moscow. A copy is available in the archive library.

A series of inventories covering early nineteenth-century records in the former Moscow Branch of the Russian Army General Staff Archive. The first volume covers records relating to the Imperial chancellery (1796–1812); op. 160 and op. 161 cover records of Grand Duke Constantine Pavlovich (1800–1932); op. 291 and 292 cover records of the Danubian Army (1809–1847); op. 293 covers the army of Barclay de Tolly and others (1813–1847); op. 133–136, and 138–147 cover records of the Army Inspector's Department (1812–1816); and the final volume (op. 208a–g) covers records of the armies of Wittgenstein, Wintzingerode, and others (1812–1817). Some additional volumes in this series were prepared but their publication was not completed before World War I. A table available in RGVIA coordinates these opisi with current fond arrangement.
