The Prints and Engravings Sector, which includes all types of engraving, holds iconographic representations of Pushkin and his contemporaries (E.A. Baratynskii, P.A. Viazemskii, D.V. Venevitinov, N.V. Gogol', and A.S. Griboedov); portraits of Russian and European writers (M.V. Lomonosov, A. Kantemir, Ovid, Horace, Dante, Byron, Voltaire, Goethe and others); portraits of heroes from the Napoleonic invasion (Patriotic War) of 1812; scenes from Russian and European history; views of towns and gardens; genre scenes; and illustrations for the works of Pushkin, the earliest of which were made during his lifetime. The sector also holds the iconographic collections of Ia.G. Zak (4,040 plates) and P.V. Gubar (http://www.pushkinmuseum.ru/kl_gubara...) which are housed separately in the museum. These include not only iconographic material, but books and objets d’art. Reference facilities: There are inventory card catalogues and card catalogues describing museum exhibits, as well as subject and author catalogues. |
