Opening hours: M–F 11:00–16:00Holdings Total: 1 fonds; 2,680 units; 1776–1917 photographs—153; scientific-technical documentation—15,276 units (1860–1930) This division holds the records of the Estate Office (votchinnaia kontora) of the Ostankino estate, which was owned by the Counts Sheremetev, the archive of the Barsukov family, and a collection of graphic materials relating to the Sheremetev estates. The fond of the Ostankino Estate Office is of particular interest. Among property and household records of the Sheremetev estates are materials relating to the villages of Ostankino and Nikol'skoe and to the villages of Mar'ino and Zakharkovo. There are also documents about preparations for the reception of Emperor Alexander II in 1856, together with police reports and instructions. Documents relating to the property and activities of the Ostankino and Trinity (Troitskaia) Churches occupy a considerable part of the fond. These include inventories of church property (from 1776), parish registers, and marriage certificates (brachnye obyski). The architectural appearance and decor of the Ostankino Palace Theater and the changes that took place in its original appearance are recorded in nineteenth-century inventories of movable property and real estate, which are also held in this fond. The Barsukov family fond includes documents from the years 1886–1917, i.e. for the period in which the eight-volume work entitled “The Sheremetev Family” by N.P. Barsukov was being prepared for publication. Graphic materials include photographs and architectural drawings of various buildings on the Ostankino estate and of other palace and park ensembles in the environs of Moscow and in Leningrad Oblast. Photographs in the museum largely consist of pictures of the Sheremetevs properties—the Ostankino Palace (1863), the Ostankino Church, the palace on the Fontanka (Fontannyi dom) in St. Petersburg, and the villages of Mikhailovskoe and Astaf'evo, as well as portraits of S.D. and A.D. Sheremetev. Architectural drawings are preserved of the Ostankino Palace and its surroundings, the Trinity Church, and other properties of the Counts Sheremetev (18th–19th cc.). There are also drawings of various buildings on the estates andin other park-palace preserves such as Arkhangel'skoe, Peterhof, Pavlovsk, and Astaf'evo, together with plans of Moscow for the years 1786 and 1796. Working conditions: Researchers are accomodated in one of the museum offices. Reference facilities: There are inventories and thematic card catalogues. Copy facilities: The museum does not produce copies of its documents, because it has exclusive rights to their use. But in exceptional circumstances researchers may use their own equipment, for which advance permission from the museum director is required. |
