Shevchenko Memorial Studio, an administrative division of the museum, retains and exhibits documents and other material relating to the life and work of the Ukrainian poet and national hero Taras Hryhorovych (Rus. Grigor'evich) Shevchenko (1814–1861), who lived and worked in the building of the Academy from 1858 until his death in 1861. Among photocopies is the page from the parish register recording his birth; the diploma he received on completing the Academy of Arts; the file prepared by the Third Department (III Otdelenie) on the Ukrainian-Slavonic Society (Ukraino-slavianskoe obshchestvo) and on the artist Shevchenko (1847); an extract from the minutes of the Academic Council of the Imperial Academy of Arts in remembrance of Shevchenko (1882); and group and individual photographs of some of his contemporaries, including N.G. Chernyshevskii, Marko Vovchok (pseud. of M.O. Vilins'ka-Markovych), A.G. Venetsianov, and M.Iu. Viel'gorskii. There are also etchings done by Shevchenko, such as “Virsavia” (from a picture by K.P. Briullov) and “The Parable of the Vineyard,” among others. N.B. Other archival materials relating to the Shevchenko exhibits are held in other RAKh divisions.
