This sector holds negatives, photographic prints (including original photographs), photograph albums, and color slides, illustrative of the pictorial and decorative arts of Russia, as well as bookplates and bindings, and that represent the history of Russian art from the 1850s to the 1990s. Some of the earliest materials include albums presented to the imperial family, collections of photos made in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by those involved in the world of the arts and by private collectors like Prince G.G. Gagarin, Alexandre Benois (A.N. Benua), and V.V. Mashukov. There is also a collection of reproductions and printed graphics done in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and a collection of newspaper and magazine clippings on arts subjects (1860s–1960s).


Working conditions:
During 1997, the sector holdings were moved to the Michael (Engineering) Castle (Mikhailovskii [Inzhenernyi] zamok), and by 1998 were open in their new premises.

Reference facilities:
There are inventories according to different types of materials (negatives, prints, slides), and a card catalogue of authors and personalia.
