Holdings Total: over 180,000 units; 1850s–to present This sector holds documentary photographs on the history of the Russian Navy from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. It contains photographs of the various stages of shipbuilding, as well as of naval campaigns and operations, round-the-world navigation, and geographic and scientific expeditions. There are photographs devoted to the revolutionary movement in the fleet and the latter’s involvement in the Russian Revolution of 1905 and in the revolutions of February and October, 1917. The sector also holds material on naval operations during the Civil War and World War II, and on naval exercises, campaigns and maneuvres during the postwar years. There is a collection of the portraits of famous fleet commanders, shipbuilders, and sailors. |
