The basis of the fond was formed from collections assembled by the Museum of the City (1918–1938) and consists of materials on the iconography of cities of the world, particularly those in Europe and Russia. These are arranged in sections for visual and thematic graphics—created with the use of engraving techniques, lithographs, and drawings. The main principle of arrangement is geographic, although there are exceptions for series of works (in groups or individually) by such masters as Giambattista Piranesi, Gérard Delabart, P.A. Briullov, A.P. Briullov, and L.F. Lagorio. |
