There are separate documents regarding the activities of such renowned opponents of the Nazi regime as Friedrich Wolf, Richard Sorge, Wilhelm Pieck, and Ernst Thälmann. The documents are arranged thematically into several collections. The collection devoted to the 1918 November revolution in Germany emphasizes the establishment of the Communist Party in Germany with related documentation and contains personal documents of a number of internationalists, including documents relating to Ernst Thälmann. The collection of documents from the early period of the Nazi dictatorship (1933–1939) emphasizes activities of German Communists, and contains the personal documents of those who fought in the international brigades in Spain as well as appeals and addresses calling for solidarity with those fighting against fascist terror. Documents in the collection entitled “The Beginning of the Second World War and Anti-Fascist Forces in Germany (1939–1941)” deal with the formation and the activities of the anti-Nazi groups in Germany, such as the vocal groups the Red Choir (Rote Kapelle) and the White Rose. For the period 1941–1945 there are documents from the Central Anti-Fascist School in Krasnogorsk, which include programs and study plans, student course summaries, and lectures given by the instructors. A separate collection has documents on the changes that took place in East Germany between the years 1945 and 1949, which include orders from the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SVAG) and ration cards for the German population. The museum has a large collection of leaflets and handbills, with appeals and addresses related to its main theme. The photographic,film, and video materials held by the museum were mainly acquired from the Russian State Archive of Documentary Films and Photographs (RGAKFD—B-11) and from private archives. These include photographs of street rioting in Berlin in 1918, pictures of those attending the school for Germanprisoners of war, and photographs of Germans who fought in the international brigades during the Spanish Civil War.
