Besides, members of the Society continually conduct expeditions to sites of detention camps. The archive contains part of the documents and materials from holdings of the abolished V.I. Lenin Museum (in the Marble Palace); photocopies of archival investigatory files on politically repressed persons, as for example, the Radlov family (the theater director S. Radlov and the translator A. Radlova); the literary archive of the Russian army officer Iu.D. Bessonov, the bibliographer-historian L.I. Polovinkina, who was arrested in connections with the so-called “Academy Affair” in 1929; archival investigations of the history of Stalinist camps (including copies of personnel files of prisoners); and memoirs of prisoners. There is a card file covering 24,000 individual victims of repression. Personal fonds total over 1,500 units.There are also extensive files of newspaper clippings. Oral history interviews comprise over 270 cassettes, and over 200 transcriptions. Among the collections of the Museum of the History of Political Repression are materials relating to repressive activities of organs of the VChK–KGB and to the history of the GULAG. Of particular note are the unique watercolor and pencil drawings of prisoners, including the work of N.E. Lansere (1920s; brother of E.E. Lansere) and B.K. Rerikh (brother of Nicholas Roerich [Rerikh]), and drawings of inmates of the Perm Political Camp in the 1980s. There are original documents and copies of documents of the repressed, their letters, photographs, and manuscripts. |
