Keppen (Köppen), M.D. Priselkov, D.M. Petrushevskii, and E.D. Grimm. In 2002 it was named in honor of its first patron Empress Mariia Fedorovna (1759–1828), wife of the Russian Emperor Pavel I (1754–1801).
