Holdings

The Jewish Archival Survey—part of the larger Project Judiaca based at RGGU—represents a database with over 900 detailed listings and over 1,600 short-form listings of individual fonds containing Jewish-related materials in repositories throughout the former USSR. The collaborative project is jointly sponsored by the YIVO Archive in New York City, the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, with the participation of other institutions. Entries are being prepared in a modified MARC AMC format on the basis of questionnaires and the participation of the holding repositories. Detailed coverage of Moscow holdings appeared in early 1998 (see Dokumenty po istorii i kul'ture evreev v arkhivakh Moskvy: Putevoditel' [1997]). Ten guides covering about 4,000 archival fonds have been published from 1997 to 2017 under RGGU project “Documents on the history and culture of Jews in the archives of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus” (https://www.rsuh.ru/cbjs/research/). Eventually, it is to be hoped that all of the data files will be uploaded in the Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN).
