Part of those records was transferred for permanent storage to the Archive of the Academy of Sciences (E–1). The archive holds documentation collected by the Commission for the History of the Great Patriotic War (fond 2), together with the administrative records of the Commission itself (stenograms of meetings, histories of army units, diaries, army newspapers, posters, handbills, and photographs). It retains the editorial records of the historical journal—Istoricheskie zapiski (1949–1965), Istoricheskii arkhiv (1954–1962), the naval publishing house “Izd-vo Voenno-Morskogo Flota” (1940–1945), and other publications of the Institute. The archive also retains several collections of historical documents (originals and copies), collected by well-known historians such as V.D. Bonch-Bruevich, A.P. Chuloshnikov, Iu.S. Shpuntov, V.K. Iatsunskii, and A.I. Iakovlev. There is a significant collection of maps and atlases (1733–1965), many of which were collected by V.K. Iatsunskii; materials about the history of Bashkiria (17th–19th cc.); copies of customs and bar-keeper books from Ustiug the Great and Ustiug district (17th c.); materials about the Revolution of 1905 in Russia, including original and copies of documents collected by V.D. Bonch-Bruevich; and documentation on the activities of the People’s Commissariat of Education (1917–1924). Of considerable valueare files of press clippings from Soviet and foreign press for the periods of 1917–1935 and 1941–1947, acquired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (fond 22), and a collection of copies of documents from Vienna archives regarding Russian history and the workers’ movement (17thc.–1954). Personal fonds include some papers of the historian V.O. Kliuchevskii (1833–1911) with some of his unpublished writings, those of the Civil War participants A.N. Gelasimova, M.M. Sviridova, and A.I. Todorovskii, among others, as well as personalpapers of various Institute members, including M.N. Pokrovskii. There is also a group of microfilms, photographic copies, and xeroxes of materials ordered from various repositories with the USSR and abroad by members of the Institute. N.B. Archival records of predecessors of the Institute of Russian History—Institute of History and Institute of History of the USSR—have been deposited in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ARAN—E–1, fond 1577, 2,038 units; 1928–1968 and fond 1841, 1,545 units; 1968–1982).
