The museum also houses part of Vavilov’s personal library with dedicatory autographs. Part of the memorial museum has been arranged to represent Vavilov’s study during his directorship of the Institute and laboratory of genetics. In addition to materials of and relating to Vavilov, the museum retains approximately 60 fonds with personal papers and documentary collections of varying size, most of them from the archives of leading Soviet geneticists. There are also collected documents (including many copies) relating to the history of the Institute under Vavilovâ’s directorship (1934–1940). N.B. Many of Vavilov’s personal papers have been deposited in the St. Petersburg Branch of the Archive of the Academy (PFA RAN—E-25, fond 803, 235 units, 1870–1981; electronically: http://isaran.ru/isaran/isaran.php?pa...). History: N.I. Vavilov Memorial Cabinet-Museum was established in 1982 and opened 25 November 1987. Reference facilities: There are opisi of individual fonds and a reference card catalogue. Library facilities: The museum has over 5,000 books and a large collection of offprints of articles relating to the history of biology and genetics, all of which are listed in a catalogue. |
