The archive holds the local records of all organs and organizations of the Communist Party and Young Communist League from Petrograd/Leningrad from 1917 to 1991. There are fonds of the Petrograd Committee of RKP(b), the Northwestern Oblast Bureau of the VKP(b) Central Committee, the Leningrad Guberniia Committees of VKP(b) and RLKSM–VLKSM (Komsomol—Young Communist League), the Leningrad Oblast and City Committees of the CPSU and Komsomol and their various departments (defense, industry, agriculture, transportation, science, culture, and others), Communist Party and Komsomol district committees on various levels, primary Party and Komsomol organizations, and their associated political enlightenment and educational institutions. There are also records of Party committees in trade unions, and other institutions, organizations, and enterprises. Records of meetings of the Petrograd Party Committee since 1917, include materials on the activities of its Military Organization and national sections (Ukrainian, Belorussian), Polish and Estonian agitation and propaganda divisions, the Bureau of the Latvian sections, and the Bureau of Moslem Organizations. The archive holds the protocols of meetings and other records of the Party Court under the Petrograd Committee (1918–1920). There are documents on the creation of the Special Task Forces (Chasti osobogo naznacheniia—ChON), on the activities of Provision Groups, regiments of the poor, and Party agitators sent to the countryside. Included in Party documentation from World War II are fonds of the Leningrad Headquarters of the Partisan Movement and its divisions, partisan groups, regiments, brigades, the political section and divisions of the Leningrad Army of the Home Guard, and documents of extermination battalions of the Administration of the People's Commissariat of the Internal Affairs of Leningrad Oblast. The archive holds membership files for the Communist Party (RSDRP[b]–RKP[b]–VKP[b]–KPSS) and the Komsomol (RLKSM–VLKSM), such as personal files, Party membership cards, together with consolidated statistical data on raion, city, and oblast CPSU organizations. Special collections contains memoirs about Lenin, and about other local Party leaders and heros, such as I.I. Gaza, A.A. Zhdanov, M.I. Kalinin, S.M. Kirov, V.V. Kuibyshev, and Ia.M. Sverdlov. There are also collections relating to military commanders in the Civil War and World War II. There are also collected memoirs of Party veterans during World War II as well as stenograms and oral history interviews with Party and military veterans, and diaries of participants in the defense of Leningrad. The archive also has an extensive collection of photographs from local CPSU and Komsomol sources. Recently, TsGAIPD SPb has been acquiring documentation of various political parties and social movements since 1988. |
