Researchers and individual citizens can obtain access to work with documents through the submission of an official letter of request and the receipt of permission from the director of the Staff of Internal Toops. Copy facilities There are no xerox facilities available. Reference facilities Reference facilities are restricted for internal use only (DSP). These include surveys (perechni) for records of units of the Internal Troops, the Internal and Convoy Guards, the special units of railroad guards, and the special escort units for security of especially important manufacturing elements. The internal reference system also includes geographic card catalogues, card catalogues for names and conditions of existing troop units, field communications and mail, personnel files, and individual fatalities. A “Memorial Album” database has been established for fatalities of the internal troops in military service during the Second World War, on the basis of summary files of the internal troops of the NKVD–MVD showing names and conditions with the place indicated of their mobilization, the period of their service, and participation in special events (regular army, struggle against underground national groups, liquidation of remains of atomic catastrophies and accidents, etc.). |
