History
The museum was established in 1921 on the basis of a permanent exhibition entitled “Life in the Red Army and Navy” (“Zhizn' Krasnoi Armii i Flota”), which had been in existence since 1919. After the Second World War it was renamed the Central Museum of the Soviet Army, and in 1964, the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the USSR. Its present name dates from 1992.
