The archive now holds only postrevolutionary records and personal papers, transferred to it after 1917 from faculties, institutes, and other subdivisions of MGU. In the early 1960s, all the prerevolutionary records and personal papers of professors (except for some library and documentary collections deposited in the MGU Library) were transferred to state archival custody, and are now held in the Central Historical Archive of Moscow (TsIAM, D–2, fond 418). Many of the postrevolutionary records designated for permanent storage were likewise transferred to the local state archive at various points, and are now held in the Central Archive of the City of Moscow (TsAGM, former TsMAM, D–1, fond 1609) and in the Central Archive of Social-Political History of Moscow (TsAOPIM, former TsAODM, D–3, fonds P-478, K-6083). Nevertheless, a number of important materials remain. The MGU archive itself retains permanent and temporary records of the rectorate and the Central Administration (Pravlenie), including the Scientific Council, and structural subdivisions of MGU. There are also fonds for records of the Faculties of Social Sciences, Soviet Law and Development, and Ethnology, as well as those of scholarly and scientific research institutes (Moscow Institute of Jurisprudence, Scientific Research Institutes of Botany, Zoology, Geography, Mechanics, and Mathematics), departments within faculties (kafedry), laboratories, along with scholarly and other organizations of the university, such as the Pokrovskii Workers’ School (Rabfak im. Pokrovskogo). Most of the fonds in the Archive consist of personal files of former students and staff. There are also several fonds of personal papers of university faculty, including the historians V.I. Lebedev and M.K. Liubavskii (part of his papers are held in the RGB Manuscript Division), and the physicist A.S. Predvoditelev. Reference facilities: There are opisi for the archival fonds. |
