Total: (19th–20th cc.)

The Manuscript Division retains some theater documentation. Other divisions with materials of archival interest are the Division of Portraits, with many portaits of performing artists; the Division of Posters and Programs; the Division of Theater Costumes, which retains many original costumes as well as costume designs; the Division of Photographs, with over 2,000 autographed photographs of theater performers and a large negative archive (over 60,000); and the Division of Sound Recordings, which retains only phonograph records–from the first recording of F.I. Chaliapin (Shaliapin) to the present. Although individual collections and personal papers are usually transferred to other museums or archives, if they do happen to be presented to the Bol'shoi Theater, they are distributed among the appropriate divisions of the museum.
