History
The museum exhibits were opened in April 1993 on the initiative of the Nabokov Fund in the family home (dating from the 1740s), where the writer Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov (1899–1977) was born and lived until he was 18. In June 1997 its status was changed from a “Permanent Exhibition” to that of an actual museum.

N.B. The personal archive of Nabokov is retained in Montreux, Switzerland, by the writer’s son Dmitrii, with whom the museum is in regular contact. Other Nabokov papers are held in the Houghton Library of Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA.
