There is no complete published guide to the manuscript books and archival materials in the library. For a general description of the Division of Rare Books with a list of private libraries held there, together with a bibliography of finding aids, see Fondy red. izdanii (1990), pp. 168—“71.
        The collected volume of documents of the library creation (1937–1939), which are now kept in GA RF (B–1), is in preparation.

Collection of the military splint (lubok) published in Russian Empire in 1914–1915.

Surveys the collection of the well-known Russian collector Mikhail Dmitrievich Khmyrov (1830–1872) in terms of the archival materials contained within. Along with Khmyrov's own writings and notes about various phases of Russian history, there are copies of original documentation, bibliographic data, and 1,723 volumes of newspaper and journal clippings, arranged under subject rubrics.

A detailed scholarly reconstruction of the library, documentary, and film collection of the Russian imperial and White Army officer Iakov Markovich Lisovoi (1882–1966), which was donated to the State Public Historical Library after his death in emigration. Most of the archival materials, including the photographic collection, were divided among several Moscow archives, but the library remained in GPIB, held in classified collections until 1991. The library (1,049 books and 10 periodicals) is now open in GPIB as part of the Russia Abroad Collection, and each item is listed appropriately in the published catalogue. Scattered original historical archival materials also remain in GPIB.

g-232. Forbidden Books from the Library of A.I. Ostroglazov from the State Historical Library in Moscow. New York: Norman Ross Publishing, 1998–1999. 694 fiche, 323 titles. A microfilm edition.

The book collection assembled by one of the Moscow censors at the turn of the century, Andrei Ivanovich Ostroglazov (1872–1908), with imprints predominantly between 1905–1907. This special collection comprises a copy Ostroglazov kept of each book that was supposed to be destroyed with markings on each one as to why, from whom, and when the publication was confiscated, and if a court order for its destruction existed.
