The Division of the Archival Records (before 2005—RNB Archive) holds manuscript and photographic, phonographic, and film documentation relating to the history of the library and its structural subdivisions. The RNB archive from the prerevolutionary period is retained here, with complete descriptions and catalogues of books in the library from the time of its establishment, unpublished scholarly works of its staff, work plans and reports, documents of personal provenance, and personnel records, museum materials, and personal papers of various members of the staff—such as V.S. Liublinskii, D.D. Blagoi, and others.

N.B. Part of the Library administrative records for the years 1918–1973 are held in TsGALI SPb (D–15, fond 97).

Working conditions:
Researchers can order 5 files in a day. Files are delivered to researchers the following day after orders are placed.

Reference facilities:
Three volumes of multivolume dictionary of the RNB staff were published (see g–325), and a guide to the archive is being planned, of which the recent two-part survey article is a helpful start (g–662). There are reference catalogues, inventories, and card files. A computer database is being established to describe files designated for permanent preservation.

Library facilities:
There is a reference collection within the archive, which is available to researchers.

Copy facilities:
Xerox copies can be prepared.
