History
The Historico-Archival Institute of the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU) is an immediate successor to the Moscow State Historico-Archival Institute (MGIAI), initially founded in 1930 as the Institute of Archival Studies, and which became one of the main components of the newly established RGGU in 1991. The Center for Archival Research (TsAI) was founded under the newly reorganized IAI in 1991 to conduct theoretical and experimental research in archival affairs and archival science.

N.B. For the RGGU library, which now embraces the former separate MGIAI library (parts of which are still located in the same building as TsAI), see G–5.
