Holdings

Total: ca. 500,000 units units
dissertations—1,434 units (1938–1945); manuscript books (in Slavic and Oriental languages)—ca. 20 units (16th–19th cc.); scientific reports—689 units (1970s–1995)

The main library holdings include literature on biology and medicine, including rare editions and books with marginalia.
        There is also a small collection of manuscript books and manuscripts (16th–19th cc.) in Chinese, Russian, Persian, and languages of Afghanistan on alternative medicine, which were donated or acquired by IEM specialists, while on expeditions or assignments to fight epidemic outbreaks. There are unique rice paper unique manuscript books on Tibetan medicine. Other documents include five original letters by Louis Pasteur (1880s) in answer to invitations to accept the directorship of the Institute, and the official decree of Emperor Alexander III on the founding of the Imperial Institute of Experimental Medicine (1890).
        There are manuscript dissertations defended at the Institute and reports on the scientific research work by the staff in recent decades.

There is a card catalogue of dissertations and documents on microfilm.
