History
The Institute was originally established in 1918 as the Physico-Technical Division of the State Institute of Radiology [Röntgenology]. It came under the Academy of Sciences in 1939, and was renamed in honor of the founder and first director (to 1951), physicist Abram Fedorovich Ioffe (1880–1960) after his death.
        The Scientific Archive was organized in 1961, and the A.F. Ioffe Memorial Cabinet in 1989.
