Holdings

The memorial museum on the premises of the Institute has been arranged to represent Vernadskii’s study during the final years of his life, with furnishings transferred from his last apartment in Moscow. The archival holdings include manuscript materials, correspondence, memoirs and reminiscences about him, photographs, biographical documents, and memorabilia. Scientific papers (or copies thereof) include his writings on philosophy of natural science, his work relating to the foundation of biogeochemistry, radiogeology, and teaching regarding the biosphere and ionosphere. There are also some materials of political interest, given Vernadskii’s long-time association with the Cadet Party. The museum also houses a large part of his personal library with dedicatory autographs and marginal notes (6,800 vols.). Materials have been brought together for the research work of the museum which has involved the publication of Vernadskii’s scientific writings (with copies of many of his manucripts), diaries, and correspondence (or copies thereof), and photographic materials.

N.B. Many of Vernadskii’s personal papers have been deposited in the Archive of the Academy (ARAN—E-1, fond 518, 4,740 units, 1767–1966; electronically: http://www.isaran.ru/isaran/isaran.ph...).
