Access & Facilities

Access
All fonds are open for research, although there are some classified complexes of documents (such as part of the decisions Moscow City Council, procurators, the Construction Bureau, and defense-industry related factories).

Working conditions
The archive has common reading room located in three different buildings , based on the holdings of the former component archives (http://cgamos.ru/information/):
        Reading room no. 1: Records of the Division for preservation of records before 1917 (former Central Historical Archive of Moscow) and Division for preservation of records since 1917 except fonds of the organizations of culture (former Central Archive of the City of Moscow) (address: ul. Profsoiuznaia, 80; tel. +7 499 128-67-19);
        Reading room no. 2: Records of the Division for Preservation of Scientific-Technical Documentation (former Central Archive of Scientific-Technical Documentation of Moscow), Division for Preservation of Records of Personal Collection (former Central Moscow Archive-Museum of Personal Collections) and Division for preservation of records since 1917—fonds of the organizations of culture (address: ul. Profsoiuznaia, 82, korp. 1; tel. +7 499 724-34-60);
        Reading room no. 3: Records of the Division for Preservation of Audio-Visual Documents (former Central Archive of Electronic and Audio-Visual Documents of Moscow) and Division for Preservation of Records of Socio-Political History of Moscow (former Central Archive of Social-Political History of Moscow) (address: ul. Mezhdunarodnaia, 10, korp. 4; tel. +7 495 678-73-67, +7 495 678-73-67).
        Readers can order 10 files per day (orders are not accepted on Wednesdays), and orders are delivered within two working days. The use of portable computers is permitted, if no electric hookup is required.

Copy facilities
Researchers can order xerox, digital, and photographic copies of archival documents.

Reference facilities
The archive has a systematic (subject) and name card catalogue. A computer database is being developed covers many fonds. A consolidated computerized reference system combines fond and opis'-level descriptions with those of other archives under Glavarkhiv (see D–01).

Library facilities
Readers have access to the Scientific-reference library (http://cgamos.ru/scientific_reference...; address (reading room no. 4): ul. Profsoiuznaia, 82, korp. 1; tel. +7 499 724-36-40), which contains an extensive collection of 150,000 books, journals, newspapers from 18th century to present, including publications on the history of Moscow and the Moscow region, local history, history of nobility and merchants, also illegal and underground press.
